 Gospel Lk 9:43b-45 Trying to Understand Jesus better? (click here) Gospel Text: While they were all amazed at his every deed, Jesus said to his disciples, "Pay attention to what I am telling you. The Son of Man is to be handed over to men." But they did not understand this saying; its meaning was hidden from them so that they should not understand it, and they were afraid to ask him about this saying. Reflections: Effective communication is of utmost importance in our present time. A multitude of problems can arise due to inadequate communication. Jesus felt sorrowful because his disciples were entirely unfamiliar with his language. It stands true that understanding one another deeply is possible when we know someone personally. In today's context, Jesus emphasizes that a genuine disciple will make an effort to know their master. By knowing Jesus profoundly, one can comprehend the language of Jesus Christ. Nathanael answered him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel." Jesus answered and said to him, "Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree?  Gospel Lk 9:7-9 Learning to Forgive? Gospel Text: Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was happening, and he was greatly perplexed because some were saying, "John has been raised from the dead"; others were saying, "Elijah has appeared"; still others, "One of the ancient prophets has arisen." But Herod said, "John I beheaded. Who then is this about whom I hear such things?" And he kept trying to see him. Reflections When we succumb to sin, it can blind our judgment. We may attempt to find ways to escape or rationalize  our wrongdoing by resorting to lies and false reasoning. In the case of Herod, he committed the grave sin of killing John the Baptist. There were two paths he could have taken: repentance leading to entering the kingdom of God, or persisting in sin and facing eternal consequences. The story of Herod serves as a profound lesson. Repentance and striving for holiness offer a chance for redemption. If Herod had chosen to repent

 Gospel Lk 9:1-6 Need help in proclaiming the Good News in Homily? Gospel Text: Jesus summoned the Twelve and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick. He said to them, "Take nothing for the journey, neither walking stick, nor sack, nor food, nor money, and let no one take a second tunic. Whatever house you enter, stay there and leave from there. And as for those who do not welcome you, when you leave that town, shake the dust from your feet in testimony against them." Then they set out and went from village to village proclaiming the good news and curing diseases everywhere. Reflections: Indeed, Jesus had numerous disciples, but among them, he specifically granted authority to the twelve.  Gospel Lk 8:19-21 Need help increasing faith? Gospel Text: The mother of Jesus and his brothers came to him but were unable to join him because of the crowd. He was told, "Your mother and your brothers are standing outside and they wish to see you." He said to them in reply, "My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it." Reflections : Faith without action holds no true value. Mere words, such as promising to pray for someone, lose significance if they become an excuse to avoid taking tangible steps to resolve an issue. Often, we may find ourselves using the phrase 'I am praying' as an escape from taking active measures. In today's gospel, we learn that to be true siblings or mothers to Jesus Christ, we must not only hear the word of God but also align our actions with it. In other words, genuine faith is demonstrated through deeds that reflect the teachings and principles of God. It is through both attentive listening

Gospel Text: Jesus said to the crowd: "No one who lights a lamp conceals it with a vessel or sets it under a bed; rather, he places it on a lampstand so that those who enter may see the light. For there is nothing hidden that will not become visible, and nothing secret that will not be known and come to light. Take care, then, how you hear. To anyone who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he seems to have will be taken away." Reflections: God acts as an all-seeing witness to every aspect of our lives. Nothing remains hidden from His sight, as He observes all our actions. The positive deeds we undertake should be openly shared and celebrated, as they contribute to the growth of His divine plan. When we discover and utilize the talents bestowed upon us by God, He bestows upon us more spiritual blessings and enrichment. This, in turn, leads to even greater abundance from Him.  Gospel Lk 8:1-3 Ensure the women in your life are empowered Gospel Text: Jesus journeyed from one town and village to another, preaching and proclaiming the good news of the Kingdom of God. Accompanying him were the Twelve and some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, Joanna, the wife of Herod's steward Chuza, Susanna, and many others who provided for them out of their resources. Reflections Women played a crucial and active role in Jesus' life and mission, breaking social norms and demonstrating the inclusive nature of his message. He did not exclude anyone from his friends’ circle regardless of their background or social status. He treated women with respect, compassion and dignity, which was often at odds with the prevailing cultural norms of the time. As he drew near to the gate of the city, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. A large crowd from the city was with her. When the Lord saw her, he was moved with pity for her and said to her, “Do not weep.” He stepped forward and touched the coffin; at this the bearers halted, and he said, “Young man, I tell you, arise!” The dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother. Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, exclaiming, “A great prophet has arisen in our midst,” and “God has visited his people.” This report about him spread through the whole of Judea and in all the surrounding region.  Gospel Lk 6:6-11 Have we been grateful enough for all our healings? Gospel Text: On a certain sabbath Jesus went into the synagogue and taught, and there was a man there whose right hand was withered. The scribes and the Pharisees watched him closely to see if he would cure on the sabbath so that they might discover a reason to accuse him. But he realized their intentions and said to the man with the withered hand, "Come up and stand before us." And he rose and stood there. Then Jesus said to them, "I ask you, is it lawful to do good on the sabbath rather than to do evil, to save life rather than to destroy it?" Looking around at them all, he then said to him, "Stretch out your hand." He did so and his hand was restored. But they became enraged and discussed together what they might do to Jesus.
