 Gospel Jn 1:1-18 (Mass of the Day)     In the beginning was the Word,         and the Word was with God,         and the Word was God.     He was in the beginning with God.      All things came to be through him,         and without him nothing came to be.     What came to be through him was life,         and this life was the light of the human race;     the light shines in the darkness,         and the darkness has not overcome it. A man named John was sent from God. He came for testimony, to testify to the light,  so that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to testify to the light.  Gospel Mt 4:18-22 Get ready for Advent and Christmas with these readers... Gospel Text: As Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen. He said to them, "Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men." At once they left their nets and followed him. He walked along from there and saw two other brothers, James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat, with their father Zebedee, mending their nets. He called them, and immediately they left their boat and their father and followed him Reflections: Jesus' call to these simple fishermen is an invitation to follow him leaving behind previous way of life. God can choose ordinary people and use them for extraordinary purposes when they response generously to His call. This call represents an invitation to discipleship.
