Gospel Lk 1:39-45 Finding joy in God Mary set out in those days and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, "Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled." Reflections:  Mary’s visit brought much joy to Elizabeth. Elizabeth was filled with joy not only because her young cousin came to see her, but also because her baby in her womb shared her joy, leaping and kicking. And the gospel says, “Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and exclaimed with a loud

He said in reply, "Elijah will indeed come and restore all things; but I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him but did to him whatever they pleased. So also will the Son of Man suffer at their hands." Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist. Reflections: Although the focus of the readings had been on John the Baptist for the past few days, the final message had always been driven towards the Messiah, Jesus Christ. So also today. The gospel says, “Elijah has already come, and they did not recognise him, but they did to him whatever they pleased. So also the Son of Man is about to suffer at their hands.” While Advent is a prepar

Gospel Mt 8:5-11 When Jesus entered Capernaum, a centurion approached him and appealed to him, saying, "Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, suffering dreadfully." He said to him, "I will come and cure him." The centurion said in reply, "Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed. For I too am a man subject to authority, with soldiers subject to me. And I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come here,' and he comes; and to my slave, 'Do this,' and he does it." When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, "Amen, I say to you, in no one in Israel have I found such faith. I say to you, many will come from the east and the west, and will recline with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the banquet in the Kingdom of heaven." Reflections: Advent is a time when we especially reflect on the mystery of God becoming a human being, and

Gospel Mk 13:33-37 Start afresh this Advent ... Rediscover your faith...click here Gospel Text: Jesus said to his disciples: “Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come. It is like a man traveling abroad. He leaves home and places his servants in charge, each with his own work, and orders the gatekeeper to be on the watch. Watch, therefore; you do not know when the lord of the house is coming, whether in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or in the morning. May he not come suddenly and find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to all: ‘Watch!’” Reflections :  The First Sunday of Advent ushers in a new Liturgical Year. The Church through the liturgy during this season reminds us of the coming of the Lord more than two thousand years ago, and invites us to prepare for the second coming of the Lord, the moment we meet him face to face. The Gospel today tells us to be watchful and alert, for, that moment may come at a time we do not expect. How do we prepar

Gospel Mt 4:18-22 Get ready for Advent and Christmas with these readers... Gospel Text: As Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen. He said to them, "Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men." At once they left their nets and followed him. He walked along from there and saw two other brothers, James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat, with their father Zebedee, mending their nets. He called them, and immediately they left their boat and their father and followed him Reflections: Jesus' call to these simple fishermen is an invitation to follow him leaving behind previous way of life. God can choose ordinary people and use them for extraordinary purposes when they response generously to His call. This call represents an invitation to discipleship. Following Jesus is a life-altering journey that calls for faith, obedie
