 Gospel Mt 13:36-43 We appreciate and thank Sr Celine Sebastian FSP for her insightful reflections for the month of July, 2023. We welcome the reflections of Sr Sushma Kullu FSP for the month of August, 2023 Gospel Text:  Mt 13:36-43 Jesus dismissed the crowds and went into the house. His disciples approached him and said, "Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field." He said in reply, "He who sows good seed is the Son of Man, the field is the world, the good seed the children of the Kingdom. The weeds are the children of the Evil One, and the enemy who sows them is the Devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. Just as weeds are collected and burned up with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his Kingdom all who cause others to sin and all evildoers. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth. T

  Gospel Mt 13:31-35   Jesus proposed a parable to the crowds. "The Kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that a person took and sowed in a field. It is the smallest of all the seeds, yet when full-grown it is the largest of plants. It becomes a large bush, and the birds of the sky come and dwell in its branches." He spoke to them another parable. "The Kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed with three measures of wheat flour until the whole batch was leavened." All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables. He spoke to them only in parables, to fulfill what had been said through the prophet: I will open my mouth in parables, I will announce what has lain hidden from the foundation of the world. Reflections : Mustard is a small seed, but when it is grown it becomes a mighty tree. Those who think that the savior will come in might and power could think again, because what they see in the Son of God, one with humility, simplicity

He said to them in reply, "Because knowledge of the mysteries of the Kingdom of heaven has been granted to you, but to them it has not been granted. To anyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; from anyone who has not, even what he has will be taken away. This is why I speak to them in parables, because they look but do not see and hear but do not listen or understand. Isaiah's prophecy is fulfilled in them, which says: You shall indeed hear but not understand, you shall indeed look but never see. Gospel Mt 13:1-9 On that day, Jesus went out of the house and sat down by the sea. Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd stood along the shore. And he spoke to them at length in parables, saying: "A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil. It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep, and when the sun rose it was scorched, and it withered for lack of roots. Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it. But some seed fell on rich soil, and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold. Whoever has ears ought to hear." Reflections: The secrets of the kingdom are taught by parables. Here we have the parable of the sower. For various reasons, the three places of seeds do not produce crops. Only the fourth place—seeds on the good soil—produce the desired fruits. Gospel Mt 12:38-42 Some of the scribes and Pharisees said to Jesus, "Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you." He said to them in reply, "An evil and unfaithful generation seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it except the sign of Jonah the prophet. Just as Jonah was in the belly of the whale three days and three nights, so will the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.  Gospel Mt 12:1-8 Jesus was going through a field of grain on the sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick the heads of grain and eat them. When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, "See, your disciples are doing what is unlawful to do on the sabbath." He said to the them, "Have you not read what David did when he and his companions were hungry, how he went into the house of God and ate the bread of offering, which neither he nor his companions but only the priests could lawfully eat? Or have you not read in the law that on the sabbath the priests serving in the temple violate the sabbath and are innocent? I say to you, something greater than the temple is here. If you knew what this meant, I desire mercy, not sacrifice, you would not have condemned these innocent men. For the Son of Man is Lord of the sabbath."  Gospel Mt 11:28-30 Jesus said: "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light." Reflections Jesus  extends a very personal invitation to each of us. We have troubles because life is hard. By ourselves we cannot manage life, for troubles and problems overwhelm us. Life is full of ups and downs. Jesus is the giver of rest and comfort. Jesus’ teaching is easier than that of the Jews he addresses,  because it is simpler and centred on the essential, and still related to the Messianic teachings. There are as many as 613 Jewish laws and are to be meticulously followed. Let us heed to the invitation of Jesus and find our rest in him. Jesus is gentle and humble; his way leads to rest, to his Father, to the fullness of life.“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and helps the crushed in spirit” (Ps 34:

 Gospel Mt 11:25-27     At that time Jesus exclaimed: "I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him." Reflections Jesus makes a beautiful prayer to the Father. He is praising God, God of earth and heaven. He is addressing such a loving God and the question arises as to why he hides from the intelligent and the prudent people what he reveals to the simple. Jesus himself gives us the answer—it is the unique access of knowledge and the love of the Father. It is those who think they are knowledgeable, who are puffed with pride that condemn others. They think that it is by their own effort that they gained wisdom. The simple and hum

 Gospel Mt 11:20-24 Jesus began to reproach the towns where most of his mighty deeds had been done, since they had not repented. "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida!
