 Gospel Lk 8:1-3

Ensure the women in your life are empowered

Gospel Text:

Jesus journeyed from one town and village to another,

preaching and proclaiming the good news of the Kingdom of God.

Accompanying him were the Twelve

and some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities,

Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out,

Joanna, the wife of Herod's steward Chuza,

Susanna, and many others

who provided for them out of their resources.

Reflections

Women played a crucial and active role in Jesus' life and mission, breaking social norms and demonstrating the inclusive nature of his message. He did not exclude anyone from his friends’ circle regardless of their background or social status. He treated women with respect, compassion and dignity, which was often at odds with the prevailing cultural norms of the time. Women were part of his mission while journeying from one town or village to another, preaching and proclaiming the good news of the Kingdom of God. They were not only followers and beneficiaries of his compassion but also actively supported his mission. They voluntarily provided for Jesus and his disciples out of their own resources.

Activity

Ensure that  you are able to give more women a chance to  voice their opinions in your social or church circles.
