Gospel Lk 6:12-19
Want to be a true disciple of Jesus?
Gospel Text:
Jesus departed to the mountain to pray,
and he spent the night in prayer to God.
When day came, he called his disciples to himself,
and from them he chose Twelve, whom he also named Apostles:
Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew,
James, John, Philip, Bartholomew,
Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus,
Simon who was called a Zealot,
and Judas the son of James,
and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.
And he came down with them and stood on a stretch of level ground.
A great crowd of his disciples and a large number of the people
from all Judea and Jerusalem
and the coastal region of Tyre and Sidon
came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases;
and even those who were tormented by unclean spirits were cured.
Everyone in the crowd sought to touch him
because power came forth from him and healed them all.
Reflections:
Gospel - Luke 6:12-19
It is important to recognize that when we pray, we cannot always expect to receive what we want. Instead, prayer deepens our relationship with God and provides us with the strength to face the outcomes, even when they differ from our initial hopes and expectations. Jesus spends the whole night before he chooses his disciples. Yet the disciples were not perfect, they did have their own weakness. Peter denied three times and Judas betrayed him. Jesus was able to face all these because of his prayerful communion with God; he came through that dark experience into a new life. Therefore every time we pray we cannot expect ‘perfect results’. But, even if things do not work out as we might have hoped, we will still have the strength that our communion with God gives us in prayer.
Activity:
• Do you pray when you take certain important decision in your life?
• Do you feel disheartened when things don’t happen as you prayed?
