 Mi 7:14-15, 18-20

Gospel Mt 12:46-50

While Jesus was speaking to the crowds,

his mother and his brothers appeared outside,

wishing to speak with him.

Someone told him, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside,

asking to speak with you.”

But he said in reply to the one who told him,

“Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?”

And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said,

“Here are my mother and my brothers.

For whoever does the will of my heavenly Father

is my brother, and sister, and mother.”

Reflection:

Mary our Mother is one unique person in the human history of salvation. When she said “Yes” to the will of God Mary perhaps did not fully know how much she would have to suffer to live that yes. At one of the greatest moments in the history of the human race, when the Word became flesh in the womb of Mary, she could only surrender herself to that divine will and sing the Magnificat. No other human has ever dared to proclaim like Mary that she will be remembered for the ages to come. We can only wonder the way Mary responded to the will of God and lived it in her life. Our God is a God of surprises and he calls us. His own creatures, to participate in His mission of establishing his Kingdom and realizing our salvation.

Activity:

Let us strive daily to do the will of God.
