 Reading 2 KGS 25:1-12

Gospel MT 8:1-4

When Jesus came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him.

And then a leper approached, did him homage, and said,

“Lord, if you wish, you can make me clean.”

He stretched out his hand, touched him, and said,

“I will do it.  Be made clean.”

His leprosy was cleansed immediately.

Then Jesus said to him, “See that you tell no one,

but go show yourself to the priest,

and offer the gift that Moses prescribed;

that will be proof for them.”

Reflection:

 While one aspect of faith calls for trusting in miracles, there is also the other side which accepts the will of God.  What is beautiful in the humble request that this leper made with Jesus is – “Lord, if you wish, you can make me clean.”  Yes, for Jesus, it was a matter of choice as there were so many of varying faiths that he was meeting among the crowds.  However, for the leper, Jesus was the only hope.  If our Lord said no, then there was no other alternative other than having to die as a leper.  Yet, with all humility, he bowed down at the feet of our Lord and surrendered to God’s will.  “If you wish, Lord,” was his prayer and the Lord heard him.

Touched with compassion, our Lord healed him completely saying “I will do it.  Be made clean.”  God will never let us down especially when he knows that we are totally surrendered to his will and at his feet to follow what he commands.

Help yourself more persistently in your surrender exercise.Is there a pressing problem that you  share with  Jesus
