 Gospel Mt 7:15-20

Jesus said to his disciples:

"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing,

but underneath are ravenous wolves.

By their fruits you will know them.

Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?

Just so, every good tree bears good fruit,

and a rotten tree bears bad fruit.

A good tree cannot bear bad fruit,

nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit.

Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down

and thrown into the fire.

So by their fruits you will know them."

Reflection:

Today’s Gospel is a warning message for those working in the vineyard of God.  In our time, we have ‘sleeper cells’ sitting among prayer groups and religious members, looking innocent like co-workers while actually working gossip and destructive schemes in the lives of those who work tirelessly for the Kingdom of heaven.

Gossip, slander, complacency, etc, are rotten fruits.  Oftentimes we nurture such fruits just because they seem to come from ‘decent’ persons. We need to be cautious about the fruit we bear, and not fall into the traps of others, who offer us rotten fruit in shining baskets.

Just as discernment is required while choosing a team, so also it must be exercised regularly while nurturing and nourishing it  Those trees that do not bear good fruit will be cut down and cast into the fires, our Jesus warns.  And heed we must, his warnings!

Activity:

Find the point of wastage of resource in yourself first and then in your community centre and make efforts to check or block it.
