9 May, 2024 | Thursday of the Sixth Week of Easter -

 Reading : Acts 18:1-8

Gospel Jn 16:16-20

Jesus said to his disciples:
"A little while and you will no longer see me,
and again a little while later and you will see me."
So some of his disciples said to one another,
"What does this mean that he is saying to us,
'A little while and you will not see me,
and again a little while and you will see me,'
and 'Because I am going to the Father'?"
So they said, "What is this 'little while' of which he speaks?
We do not know what he means."
Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them,
"Are you discussing with one another what I said,
'A little while and you will not see me,
and again a little while and you will see me'?
Amen, amen, I say to you,
you will weep and mourn, while the world rejoices;
you will grieve, but your grief will become joy."

Reflections:

Jesus tells his disciples that his absence would be a bitter agony for them, but at the same time he promises that their sorrow would turn into joy which he was referring to his death and resurrection.
We too in our daily life face troubles and temptations but the presence of Jesus in our lives brings us Joy and comfort. His presence gives us new meaning even to the most painful of sorrows.
As we walk with Jesus, there will be trials and tribulations. We may also be persecuted, but we don’t get stopped rather we continue to face the challenges, for at the end there will be redemption for those who are faithful to him.

Activity

Reflect on the concept of joy through adversity and explore its application in our lives.

In some countries, today is kept as Ascension , the 40th Day of Easter, but many have shifted it to the 7th Sunday.
