 Reading: Acts 17:15, 22—18:1

Gospel Jn 16:12-15

Jesus said to his disciples:
"I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now.
But when he comes, the Spirit of truth,
he will guide you to all truth.
He will not speak on his own,
but he will speak what he hears,
and will declare to you the things that are coming.
He will glorify me,
because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.
Everything that the Father has is mine;
for this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine
and declare it to you."

Reflections:

The Gospel begins with Jesus telling his disciples that there is much more for him to tell them. However, Jesus realises that they are striving to understand what he had been saying. Jesus reminds them that when the spirit comes the spirit will guide them to all the truth and will speak to them things that will come in future. Jesus not only foretells his departure but he tells them that in future he will return in a new and different way.
Today’s followers of Christ too need an ongoing guidance of the Holy Spirit to purify their desires, to clarify their confused thoughts and to under stand the correct meaning of Christ’s message and bear witness to him. “The holy Spirit teaches us to look at the world, others and ourselves with God’s own eyes”
