Gospel Jn 16:5-11
Jesus said to his disciples:
"Now I am going to the one who sent me,
and not one of you asks me, 'Where are you going?'
But because I told you this, grief has filled your hearts.
But I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go.
For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you.
But if I go, I will send him to you.
And when he comes he will convict the world
in regard to sin and righteousness and condemnation:
sin, because they do not believe in me;
righteousness, because I am going to the Father
and you will no longer see me;
condemnation, because the ruler of this world has been condemned."
Reflections:
Jesus tells his disciples that he is going to the one who has sent him. He knew the sorrow his disciples felt of leaving him. They had been with him for a long time and they depended on him. What would they do without him? They had left their homes and families to follow him. The thought of Jesus being no longer with them was more than what they could imagine. But Jesus assures them that it is in their favour that he should go so that a helper may come to them that is the holy spirit to convert the world of sin and righteousness and judgement concerning sin.
Today we ask ourselves what we would have done if Jesus was not in our life, would we miss him or feel his absence. How would our life be different if Jesus was not present with us, yet he promises to always be with us in every step of our life. The only thing is that we should believe that he is with us.
Thank him for his love and presence in our life.
