 1 Pt 1:10-16

Gospel Mk 10:28-31

Peter began to say to Jesus,

"We have given up everything and followed you."

Jesus said, "Amen, I say to you,

there is no one who has given up house or brothers or sisters

or mother or father or children or lands

for my sake and for the sake of the Gospel

who will not receive a hundred times more now in this present age:

houses and brothers and sisters

and mothers and children and lands,

with persecutions, and eternal life in the age to come.

But many that are first will be last, and the last will be first."

Reflections:

A young man sought the heart of his beloved, who asked him to quit his vices, especially smoking and drinking. He agreed and ceased these habits. Months later, they stood together at the altar, ready to unite. When we sacrifice something, we cherish, we can anticipate something more valuable. It might not bring immediate happiness, but it often brings beauty in its place. Similarly, if we relinquish worldly pursuits for Jesus, we can expect blessings in return. These may not be material wealth or power but could include peace of mind, health, or intangible blessings felt deeply. By surrendering our lives for Christ, we gain an eternal treasure beyond measure.

Activity:

Take the initiative to evaluate your willingness to sacrifice worldly pleasures and everything else to wholeheartedly follow Christ.
