Jas 5:13-20
Gospel Mk 10:13-16
People were bringing children to Jesus that he might touch them,
but the disciples rebuked them.
When Jesus saw this he became indignant and said to them,
“Let the children come to me; do not prevent them,
for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
Amen, I say to you,
whoever does not accept the Kingdom of God like a child
will not enter it.”
Then he embraced the children and blessed them,
placing his hands on them.
Reflections:
Some interpretations show Jesus’ portraying children as models for those who will belong to the reign of God. Children can be great role models for those of us who are adults. They typically are just who they are. They have not yet learnt to hide their thoughts or emotions. They enjoy life and have a great capacity for joy, laughter and simple gifts of life. Jesus also emphasizes that children have an important role in the community of faith. Today Jesus is indignant with those who neglect the Christian and spiritual upbringing of children in their preference to academic and professional excellence alone.
Activity:
Embrace childlike faith, and the kingdom will be yours.
