Jas 4:13-17
Gospel Mk 9:38-40
John said to Jesus,
"Teacher, we saw someone driving out demons in your name,
and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow us."
Jesus replied, "Do not prevent him.
There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name
who can at the same time speak ill of me.
For whoever is not against us is for us."
Reflections:
In today's Gospel, we witness a healing performed by someone not among Jesus's immediate followers, causing concern among his disciples. Feeling a duty to intervene, they question how someone outside their group could perform such acts. Perhaps jealousy stirred within them, common among those chosen for divine tasks. Often, there's a tendency to monopolize spiritual gifts, believing in exclusive rights and privileges. However, Jesus challenges these barriers, stating, "Whoever is not against us is for us." Christian life isn't solely defined by our vocations but by our faithfulness and sincerity. We must transcend narrow mindsets and embrace the workings of God's spirit in all people, living lives of faith, love, conviction, and commitment, embodying the essence of being children of our heavenly father.
Activity:
Appreciate another person who is as talented as you are for something they did recently
