18 May, 2024 | Saturday of the Seventh Week of Easter - Mass in the Morning | Feast of Mary Queen of Apostles for the Pauline Family
Acts 28:16-20, 30-31
Gospel Jn 21:20-25
Peter turned and saw the disciple following whom Jesus loved,
the one who had also reclined upon his chest during the supper
and had said, "Master, who is the one who will betray you?"
When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, "Lord, what about him?"
Jesus said to him, "What if I want him to remain until I come?
What concern is it of yours?
You follow me."
So the word spread among the brothers that that disciple would not die.
But Jesus had not told him that he would not die,
just "What if I want him to remain until I come?
What concern is it of yours?"
It is this disciple who testifies to these things
and has written them, and we know that his testimony is true.
There are also many other things that Jesus did,
but if these were to be described individually,
I do not think the whole world would contain the books
that would be written.
Reflections:
Peter knew what God’s plan for him was so he wanted to know what was in store for the beloved disciples. But Jesus tells him not to bother about him and to follow him. Jesus does not want his disciples to make comparison but to follow him by listening and obeying his words and to grow in holiness and in intimacy with him.
Here what is important for us is accept the path he has assigned to each one of us and to remain faithful to it without any comparison. Pope Francis says when we make comparison “we end our feeling bitter and envious”
The Gospel concludes with a reflection on the vastness of Jesus' deeds and teachings. It acknowledges that the written accounts provided in the Gospels are only a fraction of all that Jesus did during his ministry.
Activity:
I'll deepen my connection with God through prayer, reflection, studying the scriptures, and serving others, steering clear of distractions like comparisons or competition, and focusing on my personal journey with faith.
