Gospel Mk 6:30-34
The Apostles gathered together with Jesus
and reported all they had done and taught.
He said to them,
“Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.”
People were coming and going in great numbers,
and they had no opportunity even to eat.
So they went off in the boat by themselves to a deserted place.
People saw them leaving and many came to know about it.
They hastened there on foot from all the towns
and arrived at the place before them.
When Jesus disembarked and saw the vast crowd,
his heart was moved with pity for them,
for they were like sheep without a shepherd;
and he began to teach them many things.
Reflection:
After they returned back and reported all what they had done, Jesus makes an invitation, “Come away by yourselves to a lonely place, and rest a while”. “For many were coming and going in great numbers and they had no opportunity, even to eat. Jesus’ own life was marked by this great and strict discipline: Immense activity and ministry through the day, and at the same time rest and prayer with the Father at night. And so He tells His disciples of the need to “come away, by themselves to a lonely place, and rest a while” Today, Jesus is extending to us the same invitation. How often is our life submerged in excess work and intense activities that we fail to give time for ourselves, others and God.
Activity:
Today, let us spend some time in solitude, a quiet moment with our Lord in front of the Blessed Sacrament, and reach out and visit at least to two people.
