Reading : Is 55:10-11
Gospel Mt 6:7-15
Jesus said to his disciples:
“In praying, do not babble like the pagans,
who think that they will be heard because of their many words.
Do not be like them.
Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
“This is how you are to pray:
Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy Kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
“If you forgive men their transgressions,
your heavenly Father will forgive you.
But if you do not forgive men,
neither will your Father forgive your transgressions.”
Reflection:
The Lord’s Prayer is rooted in Jesus’ relationship with the Father and our love expression to God. Yet to love God means that we also must forgive others’ their failings. If we don't forgive others their failings, we can never speak words of love, words that heal. But when we forgive others and cleanse our hearts, then out of the fullness of our heart, we will speak words of love.
Through the Lord’s prayer, Jesus teaches us on how we should pray for the things we need. When we ask, we should only ask for what we really need, we should also think the welfare of other people. A practical way to show gratitude for the love of God towards us is by helping others. It can be done in simple ways that could make a huge difference to a person’s life.
Activity:
Take sometime today to pray the Lord’s Prayer slowly and meaningfully, asking the Spirit to guide you in contemplating each word.
