Gospel Jn 1:35-42

John was standing with two of his disciples,

and as he watched Jesus walk by, he said,

"Behold, the Lamb of God."

The two disciples heard what he said and followed Jesus.

Jesus turned and saw them following him and said to them,

"What are you looking for?"

They said to him, "Rabbi" — which translated means Teacher —,

"where are you staying?"

He said to them, "Come, and you will see."

So they went and saw where Jesus was staying,

and they stayed with him that day.

It was about four in the afternoon.

Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter,

was one of the two who heard John and followed Jesus.

He first found his own brother Simon and told him,

"We have found the Messiah" — which is translated Christ —.

Then he brought him to Jesus.

Jesus looked at him and said,

"You are Simon the son of John;

you will be called Cephas" — which is translated Peter.

Reflections:

In today's gospel, Jesus call the first disciples, Andrew and Simon Peter. Andrew immediately went to find his brother, Simon Peter, to introduce him to Jesus. We can reflect on our role in bringing others to Christ through our words and actions. Just as Andrew and Peter responded to Jesus' call, we too are called by God in various ways throughout our lives. It could be a calling to a specific vocation, service, or purpose. Each disciple had a unique relationship with Jesus. We should remember that our relationship with Christ is deeply personal and unique. Like Andrew we have a responsibility to pass on our faith to future generations, mentor and others in their spiritual journeys. John reminds us of the importance of responding to our callings, introducing others to Christ, nurturing our relationships with him, and fostering a sense of community in our faith journeys.

Activity:

Nurture your relationship with Christ, introduce others to him, , and share your faith experience with others.
