Gospel Mk 6:7-13

Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two

and gave them authority over unclean spirits.

He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick

–no food, no sack, no money in their belts.

They were, however, to wear sandals but not a second tunic.

He said to them,

"Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave from there.

Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you,

leave there and shake the dust off your feet

in testimony against them."

So they went off and preached repentance.

The Twelve drove out many demons,

and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.

Relfection

In the gospel, Jesus gave instructions to His disciples before sending them off on the mission to preach repentance. His disciples may have wondered about taking nothing for the journey and being given only the authority of Jesus. Jesus even told them to shake off and leave behind bitterness, resistance and unfriendliness, “if any place will not receive you, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them”.

So, they set off to preach repentance and they cast out many devils and anointed many sick people with oil and cured them. Jesus has anointed us with a mission at baptism. Let us pray that we will know what that mission is, have the faith and courage to step out in faith and accomplish it.

Activity:

Share your blessings with others by being a blessing to them through your very presence and life witness.
