1 January 2024 | Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God | The Octave Day of Christmas
Gospel Lk 2:16-21
The shepherds went in haste to Bethlehem and found Mary and Joseph,
and the infant lying in the manger.
When they saw this,
they made known the message
that had been told them about this child.
All who heard it were amazed
by what had been told them by the shepherds.
And Mary kept all these things,
reflecting on them in her heart.
Then the shepherds returned,
glorifying and praising God
for all they had heard and seen,
just as it had been told to them.
When eight days were completed for his circumcision,
he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel
before he was conceived in the womb.
Reflection:
The life of Jesus on earth begins with Mary his mother. Therefore, it is appropriate that we begin the New Year with the Feast of Mary, the Mother of God. In today's gospel the shepherds express their great joy externally at the birth of Jesus and share the good news to others. On the other hand Mary treasured and pondered over the events in her life. Mary is the first believer , from the time of the Annunciation and it is she who nurtured and trained baby Jesus, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. She did perfectly well in carrying out God’s plan of Salvation for humanity. It is Mary who will teach us the character of Jesus and leads us to Jesus. Let us ask her intercession for wisdom to discern and carry out God’s plan excellently for this New Year.

Make a spiritual project for you and for your family today , for e.g. you will pray the Holy Rosary daily and read the Word of God and reflect everyday, or any other project
