 Gospel Lk 19:41-44

As Jesus drew near Jerusalem,

he saw the city and wept over it, saying,

“If this day you only knew what makes for peace–

but now it is hidden from your eyes.

For the days are coming upon you

when your enemies will raise a palisade against you;

they will encircle you and hem you in on all sides.

They will smash you to the ground and your children within you,

and they will not leave one stone upon another within you

because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.

Reflections:

Jesus' weeping in today’ Gospel shows his deep compassion and love for the people of Jerusalem. He grieves over the city because he knows the suffering and destruction that will come upon it. This passage serves as a distressing reminder of the importance of recognizing the times when God reaches out to us and offers us the path to peace and salvation. It also tells us about the consequences of spiritual blindness, carelessness and deafness to the voice of God. Today we ask God for a receptive heart to understand God's message which comes to us in many ways.

Activity:

Strive to be a peacemaker and work towards reconciliation in your relationships and community.
