 Gospel Lk 17:7-10

Jesus said to the Apostles:

"Who among you would say to your servant

who has just come in from plowing or tending sheep in the field,

'Come here immediately and take your place at table'?

Would he not rather say to him,

'Prepare something for me to eat.

Put on your apron and wait on me while I eat and drink.

You may eat and drink when I am finished'?

Is he grateful to that servant because he did what was commanded?

So should it be with you.

When you have done all you have been commanded, say,

'We are unprofitable servants;

we have done what we were obliged to do.'"

Reflections:

This gospel passage is a call to approach service and obedience with a humble and selfless heart, understanding that our duty as followers of God is not done for personal gain or recognition but out of a sense of duty and love for God and others. It highlights humility in service. Jesus tells us that, even when we do what is expected of us, we should not expect special recognition or praise. Instead, we should maintain a humble attitude, acknowledging that we are merely doing our duty. It challenges us to serve unconditionally, without keeping a record of our actions and expectations to be repaid.

Activity:

Just as the servant in the parable does what is expected of them, we should fulfill our roles and duties in our faith and service to God.
