1 December, 2023 | Friday of the Thirty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time

 Gospel Lk 21:29-33

Gospel Text:

Jesus told his disciples a parable.

"Consider the fig tree and all the other trees.

When their buds burst open,

you see for yourselves and know that summer is now near;

in the same way, when you see these things happening,

know that the Kingdom of God is near.

Amen, I say to you, this generation will not pass away

until all these things have taken place.

Heaven and earth will pass away,

but my words will not pass away."

Reflections:

We are in the final days of the liturgical year, and as it is, also in the last month of the year. The last section of the Gospel says, “This generation shall not pass away, till all things be fulfilled. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” Yes, seasons change, life changes, people change, life’s situations change, everything else changes—with all that takes place in our life and in our world—both good and bad, what remains constant is, God’s love, and no matter what happens, God’s purpose is somehow being fulfilled, and whatever he has ordained will have its way, with or without us knowing it.

Activity:

Let us spend some time during the day and become aware of what is happening around us and give a thought, ‘how is God working this moment in our life and in our world? Is his Kingdom real in our life this moment?’
