28 October, 2023 | Feast of Saints Simon and Jude

 Gospel Lk 6:12-16

Listen to the Gospel and reflection here:

Jesus went up to the mountain to pray,

and he spent the night in prayer to God.

When day came, he called his disciples to himself,

and from them he chose Twelve, whom he also named Apostles:

Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew,

James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew,

Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus,

Simon who was called a Zealot,

and Judas the son of James,

and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

Reflections:

For Jesus, constant communication with his Father was very important. This prayer was not only
moments of intimacy with his Father; it was always concerned with the fulfillment of the mission
entrusted to him. Today we see him spending a night in intense prayer before choosing the twelve
disciples. Jesus chose the twelve to instruct them about the Father and his loving plan, as how to live as
he did in obedience to the father, and do the works as he performed. Today we celebrate the feast of two  apostles-- Simon and Jude--who were close followers of Jesus. Let us pray to them to intercede for us with the Lord to increase our faith and strengthen our love. Their life teaches us that the dignity of our mission in the world depends on our faithful observance of the teachings of Christ.

Activity:

I will spend quality time with God in prayer.
