Gospel Lk 12:54-59
Commentary on the Book of Revelation
Jesus said to the crowds,
"When you see a cloud rising in the west
you say immediately that it is going to rain–and so it does;
and when you notice that the wind is blowing from the south
you say that it is going to be hot–and so it is.
You hypocrites!
You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky;
why do you not know how to interpret the present time?
"Why do you not judge for yourselves what is right?
If you are to go with your opponent before a magistrate,
make an effort to settle the matter on the way;
otherwise your opponent will turn you over to the judge,
and the judge hand you over to the constable,
and the constable throw you into prison.
I say to you, you will not be released
until you have paid the last penny."
Reflections:
The world has been transformed by the resurrection of Christ and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The
signs are all around us if only we take time, to listen and look around for the work of God in our midst..
We see the signs in miracles, healings, and in restored relationships. We see the signs through people
who respond to God’s grace and mediate his love to those who are suffering. Jesus urges his listeners to
read these signs and act while there is still time to do so. The parable about going to court to settle
differences points to God and his judgment. Dealing justly with one’s neighbour is the proper response
God calls for, and doing so prepares us for the coming judgement.
Activity:
Look around and observe the miracles happening around you and in you.
