Gospel Jn 12:24-26
Jesus said to his disciples:
"Amen, amen, I say to you,
unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies,
it remains just a grain of wheat;
but if it dies, it produces much fruit.
Whoever loves his life loses it,
and whoever hates his life in this world
will preserve it for eternal life.
Whoever serves me must follow me,
and where I am, there also will my servant be.
The Father will honor whoever serves me."
Reflections:
Jesus offers us challenges, which are not common in this world. The human tendency is to accumulate wealth so that one can have a happy life. Jesus invites us to let go and surrender everything before God and to use wealth for the good of the people and glory of God. The seed which fell on good ground was able to take root and bring forth fruit. The seed is God's grace. Our life must come from the seed, God’s grace. Without the seed of grace there is no spiritual life. Human effort alone can do nothing. The seed gives the beginning of life but it does not produce virtue or sanctity automatically. Unless we strive for virtue, the seed can't take root. Both must work together for holiness.
Activity:
Give up something in order to grow in God’s grace.
