Gospel Mt 13:54-58
How much do you know about St Joseph, who taught Jesus Carpentry?
Gospel Text
Jesus came to his native place and taught the people in their synagogue.
They were astonished and said,
"Where did this man get such wisdom and mighty deeds?
Is he not the carpenter's son?
Is not his mother named Mary
and his brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas?
Are not his sisters all with us?
Where did this man get all this?"
And they took offense at him.
But Jesus said to them,
"A prophet is not without honor except in his native place
and in his own house."
And he did not work many mighty deeds there
because of their lack of faith.
Reflection:
The wisdom of Jesus was visibly known when he preached in the synagogue. His hearers were astonished at his teaching and began questioning. Wisdom does not always come from the outstanding personalities in an extraordinary way; but rather, wisdom also comes from the simplicity of life and humble attitude. Today we celebrate the feast of St John Vianney. A zealous and holy priest of God. He spent much time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. He became an excellent pastor. He cared for his people like a good shepherd. He visited the sick and the poor and did penances for them. He was filled with wisdom and grace. He was an exemplary person. We too are called to be persons filled with wisdom by living the teachings of Jesus and by reading the Word of God.
Activity:
Decide to make a good confession.
