Gospel Mt 11:25-30
At that time Jesus exclaimed:
"I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
for although you have hidden these things
from the wise and the learned
you have revealed them to little ones.
Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will.
All things have been handed over to me by my Father.
No one knows the Son except the Father,
and no one knows the Father except the Son
and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him."
"Come to me, all you who labour and are burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am meek and humble of heart;
and you will find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.
Reflections
Jesus, who is the embodiment of compassion, extends his loving invitation to those who are tired and weary. “Come to me, I will give you rest, ” he invites. Many are the troubles we face today. Oftentimes life is hard. Things do not move as we plan. We realize that no matter how much we try somewhere down the line, something goes wrong. Fatigue and tiredness overtake us. We experience a sort of ‘burn out’ and boredom. Let us put a stop to our frantic search, and turn our gaze to Jesus Christ. “Fresh and green are the pastures where he gives me repose, near restful waters he leads me” (Ps 23: 2).With Jesus at our side we are able to carry any burden, endure any suffering. Without him nothing is possible; with him everything is possible. Before we begin any activity let us lift our spirits to God, that we are energized in him and for him.
Activity:
Repeat this prayer today—“Jesus, you are my strength.”
