Gospel Mt 9:32-38
A demoniac who could not speak was brought to Jesus,
and when the demon was driven out the mute man spoke.
The crowds were amazed and said,
"Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel."
But the Pharisees said,
"He drives out demons by the prince of demons."
Jesus went around to all the towns and villages,
teaching in their synagogues,
proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom,
and curing every disease and illness.
At the sight of the crowds, his heart was moved with pity for them
because they were troubled and abandoned,
like sheep without a shepherd.
Then he said to his disciples,
"The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few;
so ask the master of the harvest
to send out laborers for his harvest."
Reflections:
We acclaim the faith, people have in the healing power of Jesus and their eager desire to see the dumb man made whole again. Most of us are gifted with the power of speech. How do we make use of this gift? By Baptism, we are duty bound to announce the Good News of salvation to all people. Jesus, during his life on earth, preached, taught and healed. The same mandate is given to us by our baptism. There are many people even in our neighborhood and at our work places who have not heard about the Good News of Jesus Christ. Can we heed to the invitation of Jesus who says, “The harvest is abundant but the workers are few?” In what way can we share the Gospel of joy to people who are frightened and helpless in situations of life?
Activity:
Make a pastoral visit to your immediate neighbor.
