Gospel Mk 10:28-31
Peter began to say to Jesus,
'We have given up everything and followed you."
Jesus said, "Amen, I say to you,
there is no one who has given up house or brothers or sisters
or mother or father or children or lands
for my sake and for the sake of the Gospel
who will not receive a hundred times more now in this present age:
houses and brothers and sisters
and mothers and children and lands,
with persecutions, and eternal life in the age to come.
But many that are first will be last, and the last will be first."
Reflections
God’s blessings are abundant in the life of those who live for him. In today’s gospel Peter on behalf of his companions voiced out loud the doubt about what they would get in return for all the sacrifices they made in following him, leaving everything behind. Jesus reassures his disciples that their commitment has its greater reward than the earthly reward, Eternal Life. The sacrifice and persecution they go through for his sake and for the sake of the gospel will receive a double blessing both on earth and heaven. Jesus asks of us faithfulness and radical response to the call we received. His call is to leave behind anything that would block our following in his footsteps.
Activity:
